One of the main reasons for these problems is the difference in surface tension between the coating and the substrate. For example, when the surface tension of the coating is higher than the surface tension of the substrate, the wettability of the surface is reduced, which is manifested in the form of a high contact angle, poor adhesion and the formation of surface cavities. In addition, after application and during drying of the coating, local differences in surface tension can lead to improper film alignment and pigment flotation.
